Our Owner Karen's Story

Shopping on a rainy day in Fountain Inn with my best friend Darla changed my path. Darla bought some vintage vinyl albums for her husband, and I brought home a “Building for Sale” flyer to my husband. To say the least, I can’t shop with Darla on a rainy day anymore.

Since I was a young girl, I have always had an interest in fashion and design. Fountain Inn has amazing potential yet needed a high-end lifestyle boutique. With the support and encouragement of my loving husband and daughter, we envisioned and brought to life Black Tulip. My daughter Sloan helped me name the boutique after my favorite flower.

I had the good fortune to have traveled extensively and lived in Miami’s South Beach. We saw Fountain Inn as the perfect locale for a European boutique and designed Black Tulip to evoke memories of the intimate, upscale boutiques I had seen in Paris, London, and Dublin.

Combining Philanthropy and Fashion

At Black Tulip, our goal was to create a hybrid lifestyle boutique and event space to help uplift Fountain Inn and the surrounding areas. We want to give the public a pleasurable, approachable, and beautiful shopping experience. We feel women should not have to tolerate snobbery and pretension to shop in an elegant space and receive excellent customer service.

This goal helped define our mission and desire to give back. We strive to encourage and enhance the lives of the community and women of all ages through philanthropy and fashion. Our mission is to transform women’s lives by making them feel good about themselves through their outward appearance so that it might permeate inward, build their self-esteem, and help them reach their highest dreams and potential. As part of this mission to give back, Black Tulip will donate a portion of all of its proceeds to its featured charity.
